he wears bikinis
I have "Selected Ambient Works" which is very dark & depressing (I seemed to like that sought of thing back then) There was one track that completely ruined the albums flow...#2 Thai, I think.
Fuck him for doing that.

Never listened to it until now. It's interesting to see so many people enjoying the electronica.

I'll give it a listen, but in the past he's always seemed a bit over-rated. Boasting about how his one-note drone never-changing track that any of us could make in our sleep came to him in a dream, etc. All the zines lining up to f elate him, drink his used bathwater, etc. because he uses a goofy image of himself and is so experimental, avant-garde and progressive. pffththtttdddt. I know, I know, tell us how you really feel. I guess I am pretty opinionated.

I think there is a bit of an electronica revival going on, New Order just released a new album and its very very old school. Also Artifactor Radio seems to be doing well and Electronic Sound magazine is expanding.(Dont want it to get too popular though, do we!)

I find that the electronica genre is very individual listening experience, more so than say rock, meaning that some artists are loved and loathed, though they may seemingly sound very similar. I dont really like Deadmau5, although a lot of his stuff can sound like a dozen artists i do like. I think thats a great thing though, because this music is so diverse.

I agree with Asensory. Aphex Twin is regarded as some sort of Christ like figure, while many others have offered much more exciting electronica and far less indulgent. Plaid for instance pisses all over him.

Yeah, electronica is pretty much just a word describing any electronic music that isn't dance or techno is something. It's interesting.

Fuck him for doing that. for me aphex twin doesnt sound dark and depressing well, his style changed drastically from his earliest stuff and he released a lot but for me its all on a spectre between interesting sound exploration and funny (intended or not), cheesy even from time to time

Agree but I find just one or two on "selected ambient works" to be though. Trouble is I have this melancholic tendency which can be triggered by music from my early twenties. I was listening to radio yesterday (correction, I tried to listen to the radio yesterday but stupid gigling callers ruin it) and they played Robin S "Show me Love". I had to turn the radio off because I felt so uncomfortable.
First and last major relationshit around that time were traumatic and painful times for me so music from that era is undigestible. You're probably right about aphex twin but my past is programmed in now and difficult to override. Easier to avoid it altogether.
